The Canadian Opera Company’s 2013-2014 season included an all-new production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, featuring an all-star cast that was headlined by the great Tracy Dahl and Sir Thomas Allen. One of the performances was a special show featuring members of the COC Ensemble Studio, of which I am a member.
On February 7, 2014, I made my Canadian Opera Company debut as Ferrando in Così fan tutte. The show was divided into two halves, and the four lovers were double cast, each cast taking an act. I performed Act I.
Performing on the stage of the Four Seasons Centre was an absolute thrill. I had never performed there before; in fact, the only other time I have stepped foot on that stage was during a piano dress rehearsal for Britten’s Peter Grimes, where I filled in for an ailing colleague.
For our performance of Così fan tutte, the house was packed, and the audience was incredible–and incredibly supportive. For most of us it was our first time performing on the big stage, but the audience’s support made it feel a lot less daunting.
Here are a few photos from the dress rehearsal:
My next engagement on the COC’s Four Seasons Centre stage will be the role of Rodriguez in Massenet’s Don Quichotte. Tickets are available now. Get them today!
